The Legend of French Lick Resort is a 12-acre estate located one mile east of the twin towns of West Baden Springs and French Lick in Orange County, Indiana. The property, a local landmark, is the former home of Larry Bird who grew up in French Lick.
The facilities on the property include a large home, a secluded swimming pool with its adjacent cabana and extensive patio, and the fenced grounds with acres and acres of grass and large trees, a wonderful setting for casual walks. The lighted basketball court and tennis court are perfect places to test your skills. The basketball court was the setting for Larry Bird’s well-known commercials for Converse and the scene of his appearance in the 1994 movie “Blue Chips”.
Legend of French Lick, LLC, purchased the property with many of its furnishings from the Larry Joe Bird Revocable Living Trust in September, 2007. Legend made extensive renovations to the home including the addition of a third master bedroom and complete remodeling of all five bedroom baths. Each large master suite has a king bed, comfortable sitting areas, ample dresser and closet space, a jacuzzi tub for two and a beautiful custom-built shower. The two queen bedrooms have their own private baths with “wow-factor” fixtures.
A large patio was added off the great room surrounded by a retaining wall for additional privacy. A relaxing library and memorabilia display area, and an apartment and office for the resident manager, were also created. Major upgrades were made to the heating, air conditioning and water systems. Up-to-date conveniences, like wireless internet and satellite TV in every room, and some new furnishings were added, but Legend retained many of the original furnishings acquired with the home. These furnishings are found in each of the bedrooms and the common areas. Fascinating basketball memorabilia is on display throughout the home.
